Three Reasons Parents Are Choosing Natural Products For Their Kids

Many parents are beginning to read the ingredients on packages of products bought for their children and are somewhat surprised by what they find. Everything from shampoos to body soaps are made with chemical ingredients that some parents have difficulty in pronouncing let alone knowing what they are. There are products said to be formulated specifically for children for a variety of illnesses and problems from diaper rash to colon cleansing, although many doctors recommend against this procedure, especially for infants that are still nursing.

Most realize that the body's largest living organ, the skin serves as a portal to all other parts of the body through which chemicals can be passed. Dangerous chemicals do not necessarily have to be introduced into the body by injection or swallowing to affect the child's well-being as essentially anything that comes into contact with the skin has the potential to find its way into the body's blood stream and organs. Most doctors also are against using medications developed for adults on children and even though, like adults, some children may require sinus relief medications, they are beginning to be more focused on the use of natural health products for kids.

With virtually every synthetic drug, prescription or over the counter, there exists the possible side effects, which is the number one reason parents are switching to natural health products. While some of them may be slight or pass by unnoticed, the chemicals in many of these drugs cannot be metabolized by the system and can remain in body tissue for a long time. One of the common problem seen by parents with young children is constipation, usually caused by bad eating habits or not having enough fluid or fiber in their diets. Natural health products are less likely to cause stomach pain and cramping than many of the more costly synthetic products.

Natural health products also offer lower prices on many of the products, a second reason many parents are using them more often. Prices of most drugs are controlled by the companies that hold the patent on their formulas, but with natural products, there is no patent available for plants or herbs, allowing them to be more competitive and more cost efficient. For young girls especially, it has been said that menopause is puberty in reverse and during the years leading to puberty many of the symptoms associated with this time in their life can be reduced or eliminated with the use of natural health products.

Children also suffer insomnia, especially when they are excited about a future activity or stressed out over something that has or is expected to happen. A third reason parents are looking closer at natural health products is that many of the sleep aids on the market today are potentially habit forming and have been shown to lead to eating disorders unless their use is properly regulated. For most parents preventing chemicals from entering their children's bodies, the prices of commercial medication and the potential risk of side effects is steering them closer to natural health products.
